Denny Core

October 05, 2026

Denny Core, 75, passed away on September 26, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Denny was born on May 16, 1951 to Forrest and Ethlyn Core. He grew up on a farm in Knoxville which prepared him to meet the world with his gentle, friendly and easy-going manner.

Denny graduated from Knoxville High School in 1969 and attended Central College in Pella. After moving to Des Moines, he worked in the insurance industry and US West. Volunteer involvement included IRIS (Iowa Radio Reading Information Service) where he read to over 11,000 listeners throughout Iowa.

Denny and his wife, Pam, were true companions. Together they shared their gifts of making so many people feel seen and heard. Denny could make anyone feel comfortable with contagious warmth, wit and humor as could Pam.

Denny's number one passion was the game of golf. This included playing in golf tournaments and attending golf tournaments to voraciously reading about golf.

The Kansas City Chiefs were another great passion. The Chiefs had Denny's enthusiastic support behind them in every game.

On a light note- Denny had a great zest for watching Jeopardy and The Wheel of Fortune where he often beat the competing contestants to the answer. His steel-trap mind was literally a storehouse full of knowledge and facts as friends around him knew well.

Denny is survived by his loving, Pam Core, stepsons Scott Davis (Cynthia), Craig Davis (Katie), grandsons Tyler and Dillon, granddaughter, Maddie, nephews Brian (Claudia) Safris and Mike (Marcy) Safris.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Ethlyn Core, brother David Core, sisters Sally Core and Susie Core, and his brother-in-law Keith Minard.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026 at Lutheran Church of Hope: 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines.

Visitation will be at 10:00.
