Crash, Official Mascot for the Iowa Wild, to visit Pella

Spirit of Pella will welcome Iowa Wild representatives and team mascot, Crash, to the Caldwell Park Ice Arena on Tuesday, September 29, at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate The Iowa Wild Foundation’s generous gift supporting the community ice arena project.

The Iowa Wild are a professional ice hockey team based in Des Moines, Iowa. They are the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Wild play their home games at Casey's Center in Des Moines.

“We’re proud to partner with the Spirit of Pella on a project that will create more opportunities for kids and families to get active, get outside, and experience the joy of being on the ice,” said Allie Korinek, Vice President of Iowa Wild Business Operations. “Growing the game of hockey and supporting the health and wellness of children are at the heart of the Iowa Wild's mission, and we’re excited to help bring those opportunities to Pella and the surrounding communities.”

Caldwell Park Ice Arena opened in December, 2025 with a new ice chiller, creating a reliable winter destination for local ice skaters and ice sports enthusiasts. This fall, the project will be completed with groundbreaking for a new warming hut and delivery of a new tractor with an Olympia ice resurfacing attachment that will keep the ice smooth and polished all season long.

 “More than 60 elementary school children are signed up to play hockey this season,” said Bob Zylstra, a Spirit of Pella board member. “The Pella Ice Sports Association (PISA) is working with area schools and organizations to help children of all ages discover the joy of being active outdoors on the ice.”

Donors, community members, and hockey fans are invited to join Crash and Iowa Wild leaders along with Spirit of Pella and City of Pella representatives on Tuesday, September 29, from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at Caldwell Park in south Pella.
