FONTANA, WIS. - Led by Josie Delaney (senior, Hiawatha, Kan.), the Central College triathlon team won its third competition in a row to start the season at the Fontana Triathlon Saturday morning.

In its first complete triathlon of the season, the Dutch started with a 900-meter swim before hitting the bike for 20 kilometers and running five kilometers. Central defeated Coe in a pair of events last weekend that only had two of the three disciplines.

Central bested Concordia University (Wis.) 62-39 to win the team race. Delaney completed the event in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 43 seconds for the individual title. Teammate Olivia Ritter (freshman, Burlington, West Burlington HS) was second in 1:23.47

Ritter had the fastest swimming split (14:55) in the collegiate field while Delaney had the top bike (36:20) and run (24:36) splits.

Central also had top-five finishes from Abbey Bence (senior, Burlington, West Burlington HS) and Aubrey Peterson (sophomore, Coon Valley, Wis.) while Georgia Havlicek (senior, Solon) completed the scoring lineup for Central in sixth place overall.

The Dutch are off until the Prairie State Cup in Dewitt, Illinois on October 3.
