Charles Keith Goodwin was born November 1, 1933, at home in Knoxville, Iowa, to Carl
and Faye Goodwin. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951 before serving his
country in the United States Army for two years. After his military service, he returned
home to Knoxville to begin the next chapter of his life.
Charles began his career with the Knoxville Community School District, where he
faithfully served as the receiving clerk for 40 years before retiring in 1996. During those
years, he also caught the eye of a young teacher named Thelma Stoddard. The two
were married on December 31, 1962, and were blessed with two daughters, Robin and
Dawn.
Charles was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family.
He found joy in the simple things in life, especially keeping a well-manicured yard,
tending to his flowers, and making sure the family pool was always cared for.
As the years passed, some of Charles' greatest memories were made with his
daughters. They were always finding new adventures to share with him, including an
airplane ride just before his 90th birthday so he could see the beauty of Marion County
from above. He also enjoyed spending time with Dawn at the gymnastics studio, helping
clean up and becoming a favorite among the children by handing out candy and visiting
with everyone who came through the door.
Charles passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 92 years and 8 months. He will be
greatly missed by his daughters, Robin Brown and Dawn Goodwin; along with many
nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma Goodwin, in 2002; his sisters,
Myrna Goebel, Betty Brees, and Lorraine Gee; his brothers, Bob Goodwin and infant
brother Loren Goodwin.
