Doris Evelyn was born March 27, 1931, the daughter of Leonard and Cecil (Kingery) Schrader. She attended country school at Dunreath, where she walked or rode her horse to school. She then attended Melcher-Dallas School and Knoxville High School.
On March 4, 1948, in Newton, Iowa, Evelyn married Darroll Bachman. They shared 64 years together until Darroll passed in December of 2012. They were blessed with four girls: Linda, Darla, Mary, and Debra.
Evelyn worked alongside Darroll on the farm. She took great pride in raising hogs, chickens, and helping the girls with their 4-H projects. She made all of her children and grandchildren quilts and other cherished items. She was an amazing cook. Family dinners were always something to look forward to with her fried chicken, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy. Evelyn and Darroll's tradition of making Divinity for everyone at Christmas was always welcomed.
In her later years, she loved putting puzzles together and sitting on her front porch, waving at all the people as they went by. Darroll and Evelyn both loved their dogs, Pooh Pooh and BB. They provided invaluable companionship to both of them.
Evelyn was an active member of her community and belonged to the Knoxville First United Methodist Church and the Rachel Circle. She helped at the Almost Free Shop and helped with countless funeral luncheons at the church. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Evelyn passed away June 21, 2025, at West Ridge Specialty Care in Knoxville. She will be greatly missed by her daughters: Linda (Ron) Mikles, Darla (Dan) Marsh, Mary (Kenton Reed) Brandhof, and Debra Bachman; seven grandchildren: Shawn (Tracy) Mikles, Danny (Karen) Marsh, Denay (Nate Dalo) Marsh, Brad (Shannon) Davis, Julie (Erik) Nikkel, Clint (Carrie) Davis, and Doug (Katie) Brandhof; great grandchildren: Hannah Marsh, Rachel (Devon) Johnson, Sarah Mikles, Matthew Mikles, Rylee Davis, Emri Davis, Mallory Nikkel, Madison Nikkel, Everlee Brandhof, Vanden Brandhof, Gavin Davis, Teddy Davis, and Harrison Davis; brother, Virgil Schrader; brother-in-law, Roy Loney and cherished cousin Colleen Haug; along with many relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents: Leonard and Cecil Schrader; husband, Darroll; siblings: Mildred DeMoss, Margaret McReynolds, Stella Clark, Ruth (Shives) Loney, Zelma Beebout, Howard Schrader, and infant Harry James Schrader.
Evelyn's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of West Ridge Specialty Care and Suncrest Hospice who lovingly took care of Evelyn.
